Lennan Sidesaddle Stirrup
Sidesaddles were developed primarily so that women could ride horses while wearing long skirts. The differences in weight distribution, and the risk of getting your foot caught if you lost control and fell off the horse, prompted various specialized stirrups, including this 19th-century design by an Irish saddlemaker. The Lennan design is rarely used today, however.
