School Tour Topics

Virtual Program offerings:
  • Teacher packet- $25 dollars per teacher
    • Email education@museumonmain.org to request packet. Available for download starting January 5th
    • PDF including primary sources, history outlines, and activities relating to Pleasanton History and the 3rd grade virtual gallery tour. 
  • Virtual Gallery Tour and Walking Tour- Free with links

  • 1 hour virtual discussion with Education Director- $25 per classroom. 
    • 1 hour where students can ask museum staff their questions and discuss anything they are curious about as it relates to Pleasanton history. 

In-Person Program offerings:
Combined Museum & Downtown Walking Tour: $3 per student  
Our most popular 3rd Grade school program!  This tour combines a Museum Gallery Tour with a Guided Walking Tour of the north end of historic Downtown Pleasanton.  Students play the role of curators as they assist in identifying new artifacts in the collection. (2 hours) (Addresses CA State Standards for History-Social Sciences: 3.2, 3.3, 3.5)

Museum Gallery Tour – 
$3 per student 
A close up look at the objects and the history of the Amador-Livermore Valley and the unique building which houses the Museum On Main.  The Local History Gallery is the ideal spot to get an overview of local history by exploring the region from pre-historic times to the present day.  We’ll talk about native populations, Spanish Missionaries, Mexican settlers, and early settlers, all who called the region home. (1 1/2 hours) (Addresses CA State Standards for History-Social Sciences: 3.2, 3.3, 3.5)

Downtown Walking Tour– 
$3 per student  
Take in the sights of picturesque Main Street, Pleasanton.  We’ll stop and talk about the significance of the buildings around town, the people who built them, and the unique historical stories surrounding them.  The tour includes stops at historically relevant sites such as Gay 90’s Pizza, The Railroad Station, The Pleasanton Hotel, Kottinger’s Barn, and the Pleasanton gateway. (1 1/2 hours)

Life Long Ago- $10 per student 
This program is designed to introduce students to the ways of times past.  Students hunt for Tools of the Time, pretend to be students 100 years ago, create an old time toy they may keep, stamp leather, and make butter.  (1 1/2 hours) (Addresses CA State Standards for History-Social Science: K.3, K.6)

Haunted Pleasanton- $15 per student
The spirits of Pleasanton never rest.  Discover the chilling side of Pleasanton as your guide takes you to visit the most haunted places in town. (2 hours) (only offered January-August)

Side Street Excursions – $5 per student 
Explore the quaint side streets of Pleasanton.  This stroll winds around small side streets, such as Neal Street, Peters Street, St. Mary’s Street, and Ray Street.  We’ll focus on the people and the businesses that helped the community of Pleasanton prosper from small, specialized mercantile shops to the industries that brought new markets to Pleasanton. (1 1/2 hours)

Museum Behind the Scenes–  NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE
Go behind the scenes to learn about the jobs of the Museum On Main staff.  What is the role of a curator?  What is an archivist?  What do we keep in our collections room? And how does the museum produce exhibitions/displays and educational programs?  You’ll come away with a better understanding of the work and dedication involved in preserving and disseminating the history and culture of our community. Note: Due to space limitations in the facility, this tour is limited to 5-10 people. (1 hour)

Museum On Wheels: Our Local History-  
$75 per program
​Open your door to history!  Museum on Wheels is an opportunity for your group to learn more about the varied and diverse history of the area.  Invite the Museum to your classroom for an interactive educational program led by a museum representative, including artifacts and historical photographs. (1 hour)
